How to Search Criminal Dockets
The county's Courts & Justice Public Records Search is the place to begin. The landing page splits things into Criminal, Court Calendar, Jail, and Jail Bonds. Jail and bond listings are not the criminal court docket. They can omit charges, motions, hearings, plea, and the final disposition. Treat them as pointers only. When a name's spelling is unclear, the county documents an asterisk wildcard for the search.
Run a Gillespie County criminal docket search by defendant name or cause number. Narrow it to the likely court level. Check the court, filing date, party role, and case style next. Only then treat a result as a true match.
- Open the official county landing page and choose the criminal category.
- Try the exact name, then the documented * wildcard if needed.
- Check re:SearchTX if the county portal fails or the court is unclear.
- Confirm the cause number, court, charge, settings, and disposition.
- Ask the proper clerk for a regular or certified copy when needed.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Routes
Offense level decides where a Gillespie County record lives. Felonies belong to the 216th Judicial District Court. Its pleadings and instruments stay with the District Clerk. The County Court and County Court at Law take the county misdemeanor matters that fall to them. Justice of the Peace Precincts 1 through 4 handle fine-only Class C cases under their own authority. The Fredericksburg Municipal Court does the same for its city cases.
| Case lane | Court | Custodian |
|---|---|---|
| Felony | 216th District Court | District Clerk |
| County misdemeanor | County Court or Court at Law | County Clerk |
| Fine-only Class C | Correct JP precinct | That JP office |
| City-filed Class C | Fredericksburg Municipal Court | Municipal clerk |
The charging document usually names the court. If it does not, ask a clerk before paying for a copy. Federal cases are separate and run through PACER.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
A Gillespie County criminal docket is an event log, not a one-line verdict. re:SearchTX materials confirm the broad categories: case number and type, parties, attorneys, judicial officers, filings, documents, and hearings. Exact labels on the local portal may differ. Trust the record itself, and never expand a short code without confirming it.
| Cause number | The court identifier; District Clerk forms use “Cause No.” |
|---|---|
| Charge | The alleged offense, not proof of guilt. |
| Setting | An arraignment, pretrial, status, hearing, or trial date. |
| Motion | A request asking the judge to act. |
| Plea | The response to a charge. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome or status. |
Bond activity can show up too. But it is no substitute for the case history, so match every entry to the cause number.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Copies
For a district criminal case, the District Clerk takes copy requests at districtclerk@gillespiecounty.org. The rules page says to allow up to three business days. Visit Room 204 at 101 W Main Street, Mail Unit 3, Fredericksburg, or call 830-997-6517. Say whether you want a regular or certified copy, and include the cause number.
The County Clerk sits in Room 109, Mail Unit 13. The office shares the same courthouse, at 830-997-6515. Its policy says staff have not run general-public Probate or Criminal searches. That limit dates to September 1, 2015. That limit closes a service, not the records themselves. Use the website or come in person, then request a known record. JP1 offers an email address and a mailed request form as well. Counter, phone, email, mail, county, and statewide routes are separate channels.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
The 216th District Court's 2026 order sets the local felony terms. A not-guilty plea, appearance, or pretrial filing opens the case. The docket may then list arraignment, pretrial, announcement, disposition, status, and an Article 28.01 hearing. Article 28.01 deals with pretrial matters. The order folds in a docket-control order. It schedules deadlines and settings. Counsel must tell the defendant and any bond defendant of the dates.
Docket flow: Filing › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
The actual Gillespie County criminal docket controls everything. A listed deadline does not show that a motion was granted, and arraignment does not establish guilt.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Terms
Short codes can pack a large step into a few letters. Check their meaning against the full entry.
- Arraignment
- A proceeding that addresses the charge and plea process.
- Setting
- A hearing, trial, or docket date that can reset.
- Capias
- Formal process directing apprehension.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome or status.
- Nondisclosure
- An order limiting access to eligible criminal-history information.
Never assume PT, ARR, STATUS, GJ, NJ, or CONT carries one fixed meaning. Ask the Gillespie County clerk if a code changes the apparent date or result.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
The 216th Judicial District Court serves Gillespie, Bandera, Kendall, and Kerr Counties. The judge's main office is in Kerrville. Calendar administration runs from there as well. The Gillespie County District Clerk stays in Fredericksburg. Local rules note that the judge sits in Gillespie part of each month. A district docket can therefore carry a local record with a regional setting path.
County misdemeanor settings run through the County Court or County Court at Law. Fine-only matters go to the right JP or the municipal court. Fredericksburg became a court of record on July 16, 2024. Its payment portal is not a docket search. The city's clerk handles its cases. For more on local and statewide matching, see the Gillespie County case search.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Settings
A setting on a public calendar is never the final word. Gillespie County Court at Law procedure asks the requester to get a date from the coordinator. Next, work out an agreed time with the other side and submit an order. The coordinator must have that signed order first. Until then, the docket will not list the setting at all. That order beats any general event listing as proof for your case.
One notice from July 15, 2026 shows why. A County Court at Law criminal docket set for 1:30 p.m. was cancelled for weather. Reset notices were to follow. The cases themselves were not dismissed; only the event moved. So read the docket, and check the reset notice. Call the coordinator at 830-307-3766 if the new setting is unclear.
Gillespie Class C Criminal Dockets
JP1 demands a written plea by the "on or before" date printed on the citation. Pay in person with cash, a money order, or a cashier's check. Card payments go through ACI. Your case details may not appear. If so, JP1 directs you to the Tyler portal for a name search. Always confirm which court holds the ticket before you send money.
The JP2 through JP4 form offers pleas of no contest, guilty, and not guilty. A not-guilty plea can go to trial. Trial is by judge or jury. Other listed options include full payment, a 30-day promise, a payment plan, a driving safety course, community service, and an indigency affidavit. All are subject to court approval. These are fine-only paths for Class C matters, not felony or county misdemeanor steps.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Portals
Start your Gillespie County docket search at the county landing page. It names the record categories covered, links to Tyler, explains the wildcard, and keeps Jail and Jail Bonds separate from Criminal. View the Gillespie County Courts & Justice source.

re:SearchTX adds the statewide layer to a Gillespie County criminal docket hunt. Its guide says a free account unlocks case and hearing searches with filters, sorting, and detail views. Public documents may carry fees, and restricted material stays restricted. eFileTexas serves filings only, not public docket access.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Name Checks
A name match is just a lead, never proof of identity. Run both the exact spelling and a partial version using the county's documented wildcard. Then compare court, cause number, case style, party role, filing date, and charge. A cause number search is more precise than a common name. Use it whenever you have one.
When neither portal returns a match, record "no result in this system" and stop there. That is not the same as "no case exists." The case might sit in another Gillespie County court. It could be restricted, carry a different spelling, or fall outside the portal index. The clerk for the right court can check the record route directly.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Texas rules, confidentiality laws, and court orders shape what Gillespie County shows the public. A missing result may mean many things. It could be a sealed case, a juvenile restriction, an expunction, a nondisclosure order, a portal gap, or a plain search error. None of that proves a record is absent. And a public charge stays an allegation until the official disposition shows an outcome.
Key access rules:
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers judicial records apart from adjudicative case records.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 restricts juvenile records.
Texas judicial open-records policy directs requests to the custodian.
Check your details. Verify court, cause number, dates, and role. Never use protected data to force an identity match.
Gillespie Criminal Docket Limits
A Gillespie County docket proves a charge was filed and a hearing happened. It cannot be boiled down to a label about a person. Dismissal, deferred disposition, acquittal, conviction, and sentence each mean something different. Later events can change an earlier status. Read the full sequence and pull the judgment when the outcome matters.
The CivicEngage calendar is a notice channel, not a full case database. A portal outage erases nothing. If one source fails, work the chain. Start with the county landing page, then re:SearchTX. Next comes the correct clerk by phone or counter, and finally an email or written request. That keeps the Gillespie County criminal docket anchored to the official source.
